This is the research-scoped record of Subaru's off-road identity beyond the WRC program — including what we searched for and couldn't confirm.

Rebelle Rally — from privateer entries to factory teams

The Rebelle Rally is a US all-women, GPS-prohibited off-road navigation rally (paper maps, compasses, roadbooks) held annually since 2016, marketed as the longest competitive off-road rally in the US and the country's first women's endurance off-road rally. Subaru's relationship has a documented arc from privateer to factory: Andrea Shaffer is described as a 9-time competitor and "Original Rebelle" since the rally's 2016 debut, but what she drove in her earliest years is not established. In 2022 a privateer team (#204, Carey Lando and navigator "Angela"/"Angie" Lux) drove Lando's own modified 2014 Subaru Outback to 3rd in the X-Cross class — a grassroots entry, not Subaru-sponsored (status: provisional, resting on a search-synthesis source rather than a single directly-opened article). In 2024, Lando (driver) and Shaffer (navigator) campaigned the same Outback as Subaru's first-ever factory-sponsored Rebelle team and won the X-Cross class. For 2025, Subaru fielded two factory teams in X-Cross: #200 "MTNSUBI" (Lando/Shaffer, a 2025 Forester Touring Hybrid with STI components and RalliTEK/RaceWorks suspension work, defending champions in a new vehicle) and #210 "Desert Disco" (Emme Hall and Kendra Miller, a lightly modified 2026 Crosstrek Wilderness). The press material reviewed does not establish whether Subaru held any formal sponsor-tier relationship with the rally itself before 2024, as opposed to sponsoring individual competitor teams, or what involvement (if any) existed between the 2016 founding and the 2021-2022 privateer entries — an open research thread.

Subaru Motorsports USA's true desert off-road racing program, distinct from its stage-rally and rallycross programs. Debuted in 2017 as Subaru's own press materials describe it, "the Subaru brand's first factory-supported desert racing effort" — a Class 5 Unlimited SCORE-class buggy built and owned by Grabowski Brothers Racing, powered by a 2.5L naturally-aspirated Subaru Boxer engine (300hp) tuned by Quirt Crawford of Crawford Performance. Class wins include the 2016 LED 250, 2017 McKenzie 250, 2017 PCI 300, 2018 Vegas to Reno, and the 2019 Baja 500 (reported as the only Class 5 buggy to finish that year's race). A planned November 2019 Baja 1000 entry was announced but its finish result was not located in this research pass — a genuine negative finding, not an oversight. Subaru's own press releases disagree on the driver roster: the 2017 debut release names brothers Dusty (20) and Parker Grabowski (24); the 2019 Baja 500 win release instead names Neal Grabowski (father) and Dusty Grabowski (son). Both are Subaru's own releases and this discrepancy is preserved, not resolved. No Crosstrek Desert Racer results are documented past 2019-2020; by 2021-2022 Grabowski family entries appear in apparently non-Subaru-branded categories (Best in the Desert Spec Truck, SCORE Trophy Truck Spec), and whether Subaru's factory backing for desert racing formally ended, paused, or continued under different branding is unresolved.

No evidence was found that Subaru, factory or via Subaru Motorsports USA, has ever fielded an entry at King of the Hammers or in Ultra4 racing. The only Subaru connection located is unrelated: an overlanding enthusiast with a Crosstrek-based build reportedly attended King of the Hammers 2021 as a spectator/build-showcase, not a competitor — genuinely different from a racing entry and not to be conflated with one. Recorded explicitly as a checked-and-not-found result rather than silently omitted.

Subaru Elaion (2010 Dakar Rally)

A purpose-built rally-raid car based on the Subaru Forester, built jointly by Subaru and Elaion (a brand tied to Repsol-YPF), running a 2.0L boxer four (approximately 300bhp, 420 lb-ft) in a carbon-fiber/Kevlar body with 9-inch ground clearance. Two cars were entered at the 2010 Dakar Rally, driven by Gabriel Pozzo (Argentina — 2001 Production World Rally Championship winner) and Yoshio Ikemachi (Japan). Per search-synthesized secondary coverage, both cars retired with mechanical problems — Pozzo had reportedly reached the top 30 overall before a broken right rear suspension ball joint ended his run. Important sourcing gap, preserved rather than smoothed over: a direct fetch of Wikipedia's own "2010 Dakar Rally" results article found no mention whatsoever of Subaru, the Elaion, Pozzo, or Ikemachi — this DNF account currently rests entirely on secondary/tertiary motorsport-press coverage, not an official stage-by-stage results table.
