Research · this archive's neighborhood
Where the evidence actually lives.
This archive is a synthesis, not a primary source. The specialist forums below are where original documentation, technical threads, and first-hand memory are kept — and where an owner or restorer should go next. Every forum claim used in this archive is attributed to its member and thread, never silently promoted to fact.
Impreza / WRX / STI (whole-lineup in practice)
The largest and most established Subaru performance-enthusiast community found in this project's research, covering performance information across nearly the whole Subaru lineup (Impreza, WRX, STI, Legacy, Forester, Tribeca, Baja, SVX) despite its Impreza-focused name. Per its own wiki, founded April 1999 by Alex Shikhmuradov and Robert Eldridge-Waks and formally organized 28 July 1999 — those founder/date specifics come from search-result synthesis of the club's own wiki, not yet independently re-verified, so treat them as provisional.
WRX / STI
Self-described as the largest Subaru STI-specific forum in the world, explicitly scoped to WRX/STI rather than the full lineup. Structured around member build/modification journals, how-to installation threads, a news/rumors section, and a classifieds section — visibly active as of this research pass.
First-generation Impreza (GC8)
A first-generation-specific community for the GC8-era Impreza and 2.5RS, including dedicated chassis-code-education threads. A longer-tenure niche site rather than a general Subaru forum — comparable in role to a single-generation specialist community.
Legacy / Outback
A Legacy- and Outback-focused forum organized by generation/chassis code, with technical engine-teardown and rebuild sub-forums. Described by at least one competing forum as one of the only actively-used Legacy-specific forums remaining. A same-named .org domain and a separate 'LegacyCentral' board (bbs.legacycentral.org) also surfaced in research and have not been confirmed as mirrors, successors, or genuinely separate communities from LegacyGT.com — that disambiguation is an open research question.
Forester
Self-described as focused on the Forester's best years, modifications, and reliability history, with regional sub-forums including a Europe section. Listed among automotive-forum round-ups as a top Forester-specific community.
Forester (Reddit)
A Reddit-based Forester community, structurally distinct from the classic forum-style sites above — upvote-sorted discussion rather than persistent build threads. Mentioned in research as an active alternative to the dedicated Forester forum, not yet characterized in depth.
Crosstrek / XV
Self-described as the world's largest online community of Subaru Crosstrek and XV owners, with sub-forums for general discussion, engine/drivetrain, suspension/brakes, and wheels/tires. One of several competing Crosstrek/XV-specific forums found in research; no attempt has yet been made to judge which is the 'leading' one.
Crosstrek / XV
A separate, competing Crosstrek-specific forum covering similar ground to SubaruXVForum.com — photos/videos, maintenance/troubleshooting, on/off-road performance, and mods. Existence and scope confirmed but not yet mined for specific member claims.
General / multi-model
A general, all-model Subaru forum that also hosts a dedicated Crosstrek/XV sub-forum rather than being model-exclusive. Characterized only at the level of existence and scope in this project's research so far.
General / multi-model
A general, all-model Subaru forum with a dedicated Crosstrek/XV sub-forum among its broader model coverage. Like TheSubaruForums.com, confirmed to exist and cover this ground but not yet mined for specific claims.
Kei trucks / JDM imports (cross-brand)
A mini-truck and kei-vehicle community covering Honda Acty, Suzuki Carry, Daihatsu Hijet, and Subaru's own Sambar kei truck together — not a Subaru-dedicated forum. Flagged here because this project's research found no single dedicated JDM-Subaru or kei-car-specific enthusiast community; MiniTruckTalk is the closest cross-brand equivalent identified for Sambar owners specifically.
