The generation Subaru used to formally cut the Outback loose.
The sixth-generation Legacy ran the FB25 2.5L (175 PS) and EZ36D 3.6L H6 (256 PS). Subaru's own April 2014 New York Auto Show press release used this generation's launch to explicitly frame the Outback — which had shared a badge and platform lineage with the Legacy since the 1990s — as its own free-standing model line, expressly for greater product differentiation between the two nameplates.
