The generation where the Forester's silhouette shifted from wagon to SUV.
The third generation moved away from the Forester's traditional taller-wagon silhouette toward a more conventional crossover-SUV shape — larger in every dimension than the SG generation, with a more sloped roofline and more cargo volume. Engine options broadened to a 2.0L EJ20 (150 hp), 2.5L EJ25, turbo variants, and, outside the US, a 2.0L EE20 turbodiesel (147 PS/108 kW). A 2010 facelift switched naturally aspirated models to the newer FB25 boxer (same 170 hp, more torque at 174 lb-ft).
